Something a bit different for this week’s post…
I have spent this week away with my parents, brother and grandparents in Dorset in a holiday cottage my grandparents booked for us all for my Grandad’s 80th birthday. It was lovely to spend some time away after a full on first half term of school, explore Corfe and Swanage (even though we have been before) and to catch up with my grandma and grandad after our summer in Canada. After mostly recovering from the great south run, we left on Tuesday afternoon, unknown to my Grandad we were to surprise him at the pub for dinner in the evening. It was great to see him so surprised when we were sitting at the table that they had booked for what he thought just the four of them (my auntie and uncle, grandma and grandad). We had a nice meal together, I mean apart from the fact that the pub had the smallest vegan and veggie range of food I have ever seen! We then went back to a B&B where we would spend the night because there was not enough room in the cottage for 8 people. Wednesday...

After asking on my Instagram what everyone wanted my next blog post to be on, majority voted for a Great South Run update.
On Sunday I took part in the Great South Run in Portsmouth. It is a 10 mile run around the city and along the seafront. I absolutely loved it and I think it was one of my best races due to my PB, the atmosphere and the course. THE DAY BEFORE… On Saturday I had a relaxing day to prepare for the race. I went for A similar start to my last XC review. I am physically exhausted today after yesterday’s race but also a busy week of Sixth Form, running and multiple other activities. This was my first ever Sussex league race which was exciting but also a little daunting, it was quite a tough course with multiple hills but I am quite proud with my performance. The conditions were not the best, it was not raining and it wasn't windy but it was so muggy and humid which I think are one of the worst conditions, especially for a race when you are pushing yourself and therefore have sweaty hair and face and basically everything. Nice, I know but it’s the runners truth. During the race I totally regretted wearing my spikes because the ground was so dry and they didn’t do anything for me apart from worrying me when I was running on the concrete/flint. However I don’t think my performance was affected as I came in the top 10 in the U17, U20 and senior race (that is what my coach said). I am now awaiting the official times and placings on the Sussex Athletics website. Throughout the race I felt a slight burn on my foot which was very annoying and it turned out I had a red, raw blister on the ball of my foot. I think this may have been caused from my spikes rubbing which is strange because it has never happened before but hey ho, it’s not the end of the world, I just know or nest time to perhaps wear a blister blaster or something. After, everyone agreed that it was a tough race which was ‘comforting’ in a way to know that people felt the same. Has anyone else had races this weekend? First XC? Same course for the 100000th time? Or perhaps a relaxing weekend after a tough week? Please let me know what you would like the next blog post to be about! Imogen xx Shoutout to Elizabeth Hamblin to wish her a happy birthday as she climbs through the trees at GoApe! Since my last blog post the weather has not improved and the mornings and evening are getting darker by the day…this means winter is approaching. The one thing that I love about autumn and winter, apart from Christmas is cosy evenings and breakfast time. Oats are a winter essential on the shopping list in our house. Porridge and autumn baking – the two best things. This blog post is simply about porridge because 1) I didn’t know what to write about for this week’s post and 2) porridge is one of my favourite foods-for breakfast or as a snack! Porridge is the perfect breakfast to have on a cold morning before school because it only takes a few minutes to whip up and is very filling, well |
