A few people have asked for my typical week of training. Due to my injury my training has been all over the place since January but it has been for the best I think, I have found new ways to cross train and as you all know, found my love for triathlon which means incorporating all three disciplines into my training each week. I don’t really have a set training plan each week, many aspects are the same but some days I do what I feel like, for example if my ankle is a bit sore I won’t risk running on it or if I am tired I won’t push myself to do speed work or a super long session. Monday: Changes every week to be honest; if I have done a long run on the Sunday I will either swim or cycle but if not I might go for a relaxed run; easy pace and not too long (5km-8km)
Mondays are going to be speed days with my training crew but injuries amongst our group have prevented training recently so hopefully we will start again in September. Tuesday: Evening solo swim- I change the session each week but it usually consists of arm pulling and speed work; totaling 2.6km-3km in distance. Sometimes I go to the gym too or do a bit of S&C at home. Wednesday: Run day (usually 8km-11km) As mentioned a moment ago, injuries between our training group have prevented us doing sessions together but Wednesday training sessions are usually XC/hill training or distance work (perhaps 1km reps). Thursday: Tri club swim session. Warm up, Drills, speed (100s, 200s etc) or breathing work, Warm down. Friday: Rest day or S&C which includes a bit of core, stretching, foam rolling and rehab exercises. Saturday: Tri club training session which may be a group cycle or run. If tri club is not on I will go for a solo cycle which ranges between 30km-60km depending on the week. Sunday: Always been my long run day January- May I couldn’t do my long runs and even now they are still not up to the distance I used to run but it is getting better. A long run for me used to be 13km-21km. Now it is 11km-13km which isn’t short I know but I prefer the longer distances; 16km is my favourite but right now I don’t think I would physically be able to do it (found this out when Emma, Alice and I ran 16km on the downs; it killed me, never again- well not for a while) But as I mentioned at the beginning my training varies each week so this is not a set routine. 2nd - 8th week of training... Monday: 2.6km easy swim Tuesday: 8km run Wednesday: 62km ride Thursday: Tri club swim session Friday: Stretching and foam rolling Saturday: Rest day Sunday: Worthing triathlon VS This week in training… Monday: 11km run Tuesday: 2.6km swim - Warm up, 100s, arm pulling, warm down Wednesday: 7km run + 800m open water swim practice Thursday: Rest Day Friday: 6.5km run in London Saturday: Brick session- 40km cycle followed by a 3km run Sunday: 45minutes in the gym (rehab + S&C) followed by a 45minute easy swim So as you can see each week varies but contains much of the same thing (two swims, 2/3 runs, 1/2 rides, rest day). Not the most interesting blog post sorry...

Really interesting blog Imogen. I think your trip to Tanzania sounds fantastic and the pictures are great. Well done with the triatholon and running, you are an inspiration and I might even try couch to 5k.
