This race was tough, much harder than last time I raced here (which I actually loved). We set off on our lil road trip to Bexhill; Alice, Beth, Flo, Beth’s mum and I. The motivation in the car to race was low; it was cold and we were tired. We arrived early so we went into Bexhill town centre to find a café, which was harder than you would think because some of them were…well… strange but also we were bursting for the loo after a long car journey. We found one which was quite nice and had a hot cup of tea to warm up. We got back in the car and headed back to... Little Common where the race was taking place, this is when the pre-race nerves hit hard, I had a bad feeling about the race and I had a stomach ache, what a great combination! We went to collect our race numbers and then went off for a course walk.
We then started to warm up with only 25 minutes until the race and went for the compulsory pre-race wee (most runners will know). The spikes went on and we made our way to the start line. It was freezing with only vests and shorts on so we did a few star jumps to keep the blood ‘pumping’. On your marks, set,*gun sound… The race began at the bottom of the hill which was particularly muddy, with 1 small lap followed by 2 medium laps through the woods. It was tough and to make it 100 times worse I had an awful stich from lap 1 which never went away. The race was close, I ran with Emma (@fruitsandroutes) and we kept each other going until the end. Unfortunately another runner from Chichester runners overtook me so close to the end but I didn’t have that last kick to stop her! For one of the first times, at the end of the race I felt empty and had no energy and knew I couldn’t have gone much faster (It may have been because I was cold and tired and the fact that it was a tough course.) Normally I think I could have gone faster etc when I finish but this time I didn’t. Anyway, after the race we got the classic group photos and put on our layers to warm up and then we set off on the journey home with lots of yummy snacks. I also made Alice some birthday cupcakes as it was her birthday the next day! By the time I got home it was dark (winter is really here) and I was too tired to do anything really so I watched a couple of episodes of Grey’s Anatomy (literally my favourite medical drama), had dinner and went to bed. Well done to everyone else who raced on Saturday, Lancing is the next league race on the 2nd of December (golly good molly it is going to be cold). Imogen xx
