I had wanted to do this race since the summer so I was so happy to have a good race, unfortunately the U17 Girls results are still not up and we are not sure why. We left at 0925 so we could get there in plenty of time to warm up, have a course walk, sort out spikes and of course check out the merchandise – the only reason Alice comes! It was -2.5⁰C when we left so we had blankets, fluffy socks and lots of jumpers in the back. It was very cosy but when we had to get out of the car it was a bit of a shock. It took us 2 hours to get there, we would’ve got there a little sooner but the postcode we put in the sat nav took us to a housing estate – oops (luckily it wasn’t far from the course). We arrived at Shotover country park, Horspath aka the course and made our way over to the Sussex tent to collect our vests and numbers. We then... 46went to the merchandise tent where I bought a hoodie and top whereas Alice bought two tops and two jumpers “it’s a bargain Immy…”
We set off on a course walk, the ground was frozen and it was freezing (I was wearing a long top, leggings, a jumper, my dad’s fleece, a scarf and a headband). It was a really nice course! Most of the walk Alice was telling me how happy she was with her ‘bargains’, I have to say it was quite funny how excited she was (yeah it was Ally). After taking a course walk we joined the long queue for the loos (of course), sorted out our spikes, cheered on Leo and Will in the U17 men’s race and warmed up with some drills and stretches. 1305 à10 minutes… We began to take off the layers and make our way to the start line – “3 MINUTES” … “Good luck Ally!” “Take your marks” , *gun sounds*. The race started very fast but it was hard to run with so many people and the tight corners so you didn’t get your own space properly until about 0.5miles in. The course was really nice and I was enjoying it but looking back on it I wish I had overtaken more people because I knew I could’ve but I just stuck with the same pack from about 1.5 miles in, I did overtake some people but know I could’ve got a bit further up but then again races are never perfect! After we had finished I was surprised to have finished in 18:46.The U17 Sussex teams – both men and women did really well! Overall it was a really good race and a good day. After the race, we went past the merchandise tent to see that they were reducing everything so I couldn’t resist getting another jumper – it was £5 – you can never have too many hoodies, well you can but I am telling myself you can’t. I thought I could no longer say to Alice that she was crazy for getting two of everything but then I realised I still could- I didn’t get two tops ahaha (love you really Ally). We left pretty soon after the race because it was cold and we needed to get back, we warmed up in our new hoodies and had something to eat and then we set off on the journey home. 2 hours later… Finally home, Dad had the woodburner on and it was very warm in the house, Nativity 3 was on TV so I sorted out my stuff and watched the Christmas movie, I was very tired. I am now off to make a cake for my mum's birthday now, au revoir! Imogen xx
