I am back to the blog and from my holiday! Whilst I was away I read three books (lying in the sun = perfect opportunity) and I thought it would be a good idea to share my favourite/most inspiring running reads. PS. All the photos are linked to amazon where you can buy the books. I buy them second hand usually. Paula: My story so far- Paula Radcliffe I have read this book twice now after picking it up in a charity shop and I would 100% recommend. An ambassador for long distance running! She not only describes the highs but also the lows of such a demanding sport. From Last to First - Charlie Spedding I just finished this on the plane yesterday and I think it is one of the most inspiring reads as he moves his way up in running but is still seen as the underdog. His hard work and motivation leads him to winning the London Marathon and an Olympic medal. When I was reading this I thought of my two favourite quotes: “Hard work beats talent” and “You are your only limit.” Spedding was ridden with injury and setbacks but he worked his butt off to achieve his dream. “Injuries are bound to happen to every sportsman at some time, so they shouldn’t be a real problem if they are handled correctly. The problem occurs when you suffer an injury, recover, fight your way back to fitness and then get injured again.” A Life Without Limits – Chrissie Wellington By far my favourite book! Wellington is among the biggest triathlete inspirations and especially for me personally. Wellington didn’t start triathlon at a young age like many but she fell into the sport, leading her to becoming the multiple Ironman champion! She started with borrowed equipment and very little experience and I can’t help but relate to this as all my triathlons have been with second hand or borrowed equipment. In no way I am saying that I am going to be anyway close to her achievements (although I would love to) but I am saying that if you put the hard work in you will succeed, even if you don’t have the most specialist equipment. A book which describes all the ups and downs of triathlon and being a professional athlete. Just a Little Run Around the World – Rosie Swale-Pope
I actually read this a while back after I was recommended it by a man on my run who was running around Britain. He had read this during a Christmas holiday and by Easter had set off! In this book Rosie’s husband dies of cancer at a young age and she decides to raise money and awareness by running around the world. In this novel, Rosie describes the trials and tribulations of such a challenge: 5 years, 3 packs of wolves and 53 pairs of running shoes. This book is raw, extremely motivational and reveals a hugely courageous character. Books I would like to read
