FRIDAY FIVE!! Happy Friday everyone!! I hope everyone has had an okay first week back at school and if you are still on half term- LUCKY! This week has been quite busy for me with school work, training and other commitments. On Monday I had three mocks – one in each subject which was quite stressful but nice to get them done at the start of the week. Tuesday I had another mock in chemistry. All tests are over now so I can enjoy the weekend and some good training with some hopefully good weather, this then leads me on to the…theme…subject… whatever it may be called but my FRIDAY FIVE – basically five things I have been loving lately. 1. THE WEATHER Although winter is approaching and the cold, dark mornings and evenings are among us with the clock changes, the sun is still beaming through. As much as I love summer and the hot sun (well as hot as it can be in the UK) I also really like the autumn/winter sun, it is very fresh and actually my favourite running weather too. I live in the South Downs so I when I run up the road there are ‘rolling hills’ for miles. Especially in the mornings, the golden sun and the hills = amazing running views. Unfortunately for me the cold mornings call for freezing fingers on the cycle to school, both me and my mum have Raynaud’s (causes some areas of your body — such as your fingers and toes — to feel numb and cold in response to cold temperatures or stress) this means that my fingers will stay cold for a long time. I meet my friend Alice before we go into school and one of the first things we say to each other is how flippin’ cold it was that morning. Alice is used to the South African heat (the jolla she is) so the English weather is a bit of a bummer so to speak. 2. BISCOFF SPREAD Okay so this is quite random but lately I have been obsessed with Biscoff spread, in fact I have basically eaten a whole jar, starting on Sunday. Spices and cinnamon are an autumn/winter necessity and Biscoff is basically a caramelly cinnamonny spread which, like peanut butter goes with everything and anything. My favourite is stirred into porridge, just imagine a warm creamy bowl of porridge on a cold morning with Biscoff in –perfect start to the day. 3. TRAINING/RUNNING Recently I have really been enjoying training which I know sounds a bit strange cause surely if you go running you enjoy it, but as many of you probably know from experience, not every run is a good run; some days you feel too slow, others you are simply too achy but recently I have not had many of these days- I have been mixing up my training with interval training, hill sessions, speed but also I have just been going out and seeing how I feel, with no set distance or time but just to clear my head and explore. This leads me onto my 4th favourite thing at the moment…. 4. FREE PERIODS Free periods at school or study periods as they call them have been a life changer for me, especially as winter is coming but also with the large amount of content in my A-Levels. Some days I have 2-4hours of free periods and I simply cannot study for that long in the library at school with no break so I have been making the most of my periods by going for runs, Beth and I have been on multiple, we have been with Alice too and I have been for some on my own. The best part about this is that when I get home I can study without worrying about when I can go for a run. However I don’t run in every free period, obviously. So in the others I work in the library doing any homework, lesson summaries or extra reading. I really like the atmosphere in the library because it is a silent library so you can get your head down without any distractions. This then means I have less to do when I get home and I can relax for a bit. 5. TV SHOWS – OUR GIRL, BAKE OFF, DOCTOR FOSTER, STRANGER THINGS I don’t watch TV that often but recently there have been some really good programmes on and after a long day/week (I often record shows and watch them at the weekend or on Friday evenings) it is good to have something to watch before bed. Tuesday nights…whoa… there were some very good shows on. Unfortunately they have all finished now for the time being.
That sums up my Friday Five but the most exciting part– IT IS FINALLY NOVEMEBER, ONLY 55 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMASSSSS!!!!!! I hope you enjoyed reading my Friday Five’s and perhaps I could do this more often, let me know on Instagram or in the comments. Imogen xx
