Hope you have all had a good week. Here is part two of my exam series. Revision techniques very much rely on you as the individual but also on the subjects you are doing. Background: I am doing AQA A-level Biology, AQA A-level Chemistry and OCR MEI A-level Maths. So personally I have a system that I use when revising each topic for every subject. 1. Write out notes This cannot be my only revision technique with subjects that rely heavily on application questions but this initiates my revision and reminds me of the content. 2. Q&A flashcards I have written flashcards for every topic in biology and chemistry. The questions are on the front of the card and the answers on the back. During GCSEs this worked so well when I was travelling or cramming the night before – my brother was the best and would spend about 30mins each evening asking me questions for that subject (hopefully he is willing to do it this year too.) 3. PAST PAPER QUESTIONS! This is the most important form of revision for me. There are so many quesrions out there… Physics Maths Tutor A-level Chemistry Exam board websites Resources from school Every time I do past paper questions I go through the mark scheme, identify what I did wrong whether is may be:
4. Blurting I have only recently started this but it really helps identify what I don’t know. After writing out my notes and doing questions I will get a piece of plain paper and just write out everything I know about that chapter. I will then go back to my notes and compare to identify what I am missing. Something that has really helped me this year is the app Forest (recommended by my friend Emma) as I can get really distracted on my phone during revision. You decide how long you want to revise for before a break, during this time period (10mins-120mins) you cannot be tempted to go onto another app otherwise your ‘tree’ will die. This has worked so well for me. Although it costs £1.99, I would 100% recommend it.
Hope you have found this blog post series useful. Immie <3
