“What a year 2017 has been, the best yet, so many memories made and lots of achievements.” That is how I started this post last year. I am not going to pretend and say to you that I have the best year but I will say that 2018 has been a whirlwind with many ups and downs. A learning curve. 2018 has been ridden with injury and false hope but as much as being injured has sucked it has taught me so much, “subtract the negatives and add the positives.” - I have established a healthier relationship with exercise and now recognise the importance of rest days. - I refound my focus. - I am more than grateful for those who have been there through thick and thin; friends and family. - Along the way I re-built my love for swimming and began triathlon! Triathlon I was actually scrolling through my account the other day and found a post where I joked about starting triathlon with the amount of swimming and cycling I was doing as cross training #IRONIC · My biggest achievement this year without sounding too arrogant… …qualifying for the 2019 European age group triathlon championships in Kazan next summer. · 5km sponsored swim was a 1st this year Running · I placed 2nd in County Schools and was proud to represent Sussex at English Schools XC. · I was defeated by Loughbourgh intercounties; every part of my body hurt but I had to realise that not every race is successful. · I raced during track season for the first time (probably shouldn’t with my ankle half recovered but hindsight is a great thing) + witnessed Emma smash PB after PB in the 1500m. · Had the opportunity to do a photoshoot with ProDirectRunning and Adidas in the Solarboost. Personal · The most memorable and rewarding part of 2018 was volunteering in Tanzania with Grassroots and my Sixth form. Everyone that we spent time with were so welcoming and cheerful. If you want to hear more about my experience click here. · Surprise 17th birthday; I went on a run with friends and was super surprised at the top when more of my friends had set up a birthday picnic and birthday cake. “Appreciate what you have, where you are and who you are with.”(Tony Clark) Other highlights of 2018: · Sixth Form Fashion show · 18th birthday parties · Summer beach evenings with friends from school · JASPER!! After years of nagging my parents we finally got a dog and none of us have looked back, although he can be a crazy puppy he is also a cutie <3 Lowlights of 2018: · Learning to deal with injury · Uni admission stress · 3hours sleep in the cold after ‘after fashion show party’, before school. Not feeling so fresh the next day I have to say. Favourite Instagram accounts/blogs @jessicaolie : I love how real Jessica is and her advocacy for self-love. @anna_boniface : Anna has progressed so much after being struck with a tibial stress fracture mid-marathon and has written about RED-S and how it needs to be addressed. @zannavandijk : Zanna is a fitness blogger but also has a passion for looking after the environment and addresses the issue of plastic use and landfill. @thefoodmedic : Hazel is a fitness blogger and doctor who seems to have a good work-life balance #mygoals 2019
- I would love to get back to running soon but need to make sure I take it slow and hopefully 2019 will be injury free. - Focus on studies so I hopefully I will get into medical school; opening many new doors for the future. - I would like to allow more time for myself. Maybe read a bit more or practice yoga (I am probably one of the most inflexible people you know.) - It would be good if I could get on and do my driving theory test so I can then take my driving test before university. I am just going to take the year as it comes and am looking forward to what it will bring. I am sure my 2019 round up will include my busy summer next year and chilling after A- levels. I am excited to go to Lanzarote in February half term for a bit of winter sun and to get away from the business of life before A-level revision hits hard. Thank you I would just like to thank you all for reading my posts, even if there aren’t many of us (yet) and I hope you all have the best 2019. Thank you to everyone who has built memories with me this year, I am super grateful xx Immie <3
